Chile Switches to Daylight Saving Time

Effective April 7th, 2024

Reset Clocks One Hour Ahead

Santiago, Chile – At 00:00 AM local time on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, Chile will transition to Daylight Saving Time (DST). The clocks will be advanced by one hour, moving from -6:00 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) to -5:00 GMT. Santiago, the capital city of Chile, will observe the new time zone of -5:00 GMT. The transition to DST marks the start of the warmer months in the Southern Hemisphere. The change in time will affect all of Chile's time zones, including the Easter Island time zone, which will switch to -6:00 GMT. The time difference between Santiago and New York City will decrease from 4 hours to 3 hours during the DST period. DST is implemented in Chile to make better use of daylight during the summer months. Studies have shown that DST can lead to energy savings, reduced traffic accidents, and improved overall well-being. The transition back to standard time will occur on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, at 24:00 PM local time.
