Cdu Interior Minister Stuebgen Individual Right To Asylum No Longer Necessary

CDU interior minister Stübgen: Individual right to asylum "no longer necessary"

Saxony's Interior Minister Roland Wöller (CDU) has called for a fundamental change in asylum policy.

He told the "Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten" that the individual right to asylum was "no longer necessary". Instead, he advocated for a quota system, as is already the case in Canada.

Wöller argued that this would make it possible to control and limit the number of asylum seekers coming to Germany. He also said that the current system was too susceptible to abuse.

Wöller is not the first CDU politician to call for changes to asylum policy

In recent months, several other CDU politicians have also spoken out in favor of a quota system. The party's general secretary, Mario Czaja, said in October that he could "imagine" such a system.

However, the CDU's coalition partner, the SPD, has so far rejected the idea of a quota system. The SPD's interior minister, Nancy Faeser, said in November that she did not believe such a system would be effective.

The debate over asylum policy is likely to continue in the coming months

As the number of asylum seekers coming to Germany continues to rise, pressure is growing on the government to find a solution. It remains to be seen whether the CDU will be able to convince the SPD to change its stance on asylum policy.

In the meantime, the debate over asylum policy is likely to continue in the coming months. It is a complex issue with no easy answers.
