‘We’ve Had a Pint of Guinness in Every Pub’: Stranded Passengers Excited to Leave as Ship Takes to the Sea for First Time in Three Months

A ship carrying hundreds of passengers who had been stranded for three months finally set sail on Wednesday.

The MV Voyager of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean International, left New Orleans on Wednesday afternoon after being delayed by Hurricane Ian and other weather-related issues.

The ship was originally scheduled to depart on September 24 but was forced to remain in port due to the hurricane.

Passengers were excited to finally be able to leave after being stuck on the ship for so long.

“We’ve had a pint of Guinness in every pub,” said one passenger, who gave his name only as Mike.

“We’re just so glad to be able to finally leave,” he said. “It’s been a long three months.”

The ship is bound for Cozumel, Mexico, and then will continue on to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Haiti before returning to New Orleans on October 15.

Royal Caribbean has offered passengers a full refund or a credit for a future cruise as compensation for the delay.

Here are some additional details about the MV Voyager of the Seas:

  • The ship is 1,188 feet long and 154 feet wide.
  • It has 15 decks and can accommodate up to 3,840 passengers.
  • The ship has a variety of amenities, including a casino, a theater, a spa, and several restaurants.

The MV Voyager of the Seas is one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

It is the fourth ship in Royal Caribbean’s Voyager class of cruise ships, which are known for their size and amenities.
